The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ruling against the Trump administration's attempt to intervene in California's election process, according to statements released today by Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta.
The ruling marks the third rejection in one week of the Trump administration's legal challenges regarding California elections. The Ninth Circuit previously rejected a Department of Justice request for a preliminary injunction on Monday, and a District Court rejected another request on Wednesday, the officials said.
California law prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections and includes multiple state laws protecting against such voting, according to Attorney General Bonta.
The court's decision came while voting was already underway and just days before Election Day on Tuesday, November 3.
