Oklahoma's insurance commissioner has placed Mending Health Insurance in Oklahoma, Inc. into conservatorship due to the company's precarious financial standing, the Oklahoma Insurance Department announced. The action gives the commissioner direct control of the company's operations and finances.

Mending Health was placed in administrative supervision on July 31, 2026. After monitoring the company during that period, the department determined stronger intervention was necessary. "Our number one priority is consumer protection," Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready said. "Given the company's financial situation, I determined this strong approach was a necessary step to protect policyholders."

Policyholders' current coverage will remain in effect, and members must continue paying premiums. However, Mending Health has already notified regulators that it is withdrawing from the Oklahoma market effective December 31, 2026. Policies will not be available for renewal during the 2027 open enrollment period.

The Oklahoma Insurance Department is working with federal regulators to help members find new coverage during the open enrollment period.
