California has formally named its Labor and Workforce Development Agency Building in honor of Dolores Huerta, a pioneering labor leader and civil rights activist and member of the California Hall of Fame.
The building officially opened on January 21, 2026, in Sacramento. It houses approximately 2,500 state employees from the Labor and Workforce Development Agency, Employment Development Department, Department of Industrial Relations, and the California Workforce Development Board.
Governor Gavin Newsom announced the naming, saying Huerta's "legacy is inseparable from the story of California's labor movement. She stood shoulder to shoulder with farmworkers, helped build powerful unions, and fought to make sure working people had a voice, a seat at the table, and the dignity they deserved."
California Secretary of Labor Stewart Knox said the state owes Huerta gratitude for her advocacy on behalf of farmworkers and working families.
