California's attorney general filed felony charges against a former Lassen Superior Court executive officer for allegedly misappropriating more than $14,000 in public funds. The official allegedly used a court-issued credit card and submitted falsified reimbursement requests to cover personal expenses between 2022 and 2025.
Court employees discovered questionable transactions in October 2024 involving credit and fuel cards and reported them to the presiding judge, who notified the Lassen County Sheriff's Office. In July 2025, the Lassen County District Attorney's Office requested the California Department of Justice assume responsibility for the investigation.
Investigators reviewed financial records, reimbursement requests, and internal purchasing procedures and interviewed witnesses. They identified approximately $14,285 in allegedly unauthorized expenditures.
"Public officials have a responsibility to safeguard taxpayer dollars," said Attorney General Rob Bonta. "When those who are trusted with public funds misuse them for personal gain, they will be held accountable."
