The Trump administration announced $87 million in federal funding for 129 rural healthcare providers across Texas through the Rural Health Transformation Program.

The funding aims to help rural Texas providers recruit and retain healthcare workers, modernize medical equipment and facilities, and improve access to chronic disease prevention and management, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The investment was made possible through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which allocated $50 billion for rural health transformation nationwide. The Texas funding is part of the administration's broader Rural Texas Strong initiative.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. said the administration was "putting resources directly into rural communities to strengthen the health workforce, modernize infrastructure, expand access, and bring care closer to home."

CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said, "Our focus now is on making sure this early progress translates into lasting results for rural patients and more resilient, sustainable healthcare systems in the years ahead. In Texas, that means rural providers can recruit and retain the physicians and emergency personnel they need, replace aging medical equipment, and help patients prevent and manage chronic conditions close to home."

The funding targets healthcare providers serving rural Texans by supporting efforts to prevent and manage chronic diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic respiratory disease. It will also support recruitment and retention of physicians, emergency medical personnel, and other healthcare professionals, as well as equipment and facility improvements.
