Eastbound ramps on Interstate 94 in Berrien County reopened Thursday. All lanes of the highway are expected to reopen by Nov. 13 as work on a three-year reconstruction project concludes, the Michigan Department of Transportation said.

The project involved rebuilding 8.5 miles of I-94 and constructing four new bridges, while also repairing nine other bridges, between Puetz Road and Britain Avenue. The $204 million investment was funded through Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program, which focuses on state highways and bridges critical to the economy and carrying the most traffic.

In the final year of construction, crews built a new bridge over Pipestone Road, repaired the eastbound bridge over the St. Joseph River, and installed new box culverts. Crews also rebuilt sections of roadway, upgraded signs, installed cable guardrails, and made drainage improvements.

According to economic modeling, the $204 million investment is expected to have supported 2,911 jobs directly and indirectly.
