Mayor Michael J. Garcia declared a local emergency in Santa Fe following severe weather that struck the city Saturday, Oct. 24, causing extensive damage and straining the city's ability to respond and recover alone.
Under the proclamation, the City Manager is directed to coordinate emergency response and recovery efforts across city departments. These include protecting public safety, assessing damage to public infrastructure and city operations, coordinating resources with local and state agencies, supporting emergency protective measures and debris removal, and documenting damage and recovery needs.
Garcia is requesting that the Governor declare a state of emergency for Santa Fe and make state resources available, including additional personnel, equipment, technical assistance, and other support needed to protect residents, restore services, and address damage caused by the severe weather.
The proclamation took effect upon the mayor's signature and remains in effect for three days, though the Santa Fe Governing Body may extend it through a resolution if additional time is needed for response and recovery.
