The Upper Trinity River adult fall-run Chinook salmon fishery will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The closure comes after agency projections show anglers will have met the seasonal quota of 536 adult fish.
The affected section runs from the Old Lewiston Bridge to the Highway 299 West Bridge at Cedar Flat. Anglers will no longer be permitted to keep adult Chinook salmon in this reach, though fishing for juvenile jack Chinook salmon (23 inches or smaller) will remain open.
The Klamath and Trinity rivers are managed as quota fisheries with a combined limit of approximately 3,200 adult fall-run Chinook salmon for 2026. Different sections of the two rivers have different allocations, with the upper Trinity's quota set at 536 adult fish for this season.
Anglers can monitor the quota status by calling the department's information hotline at (800) 564-6479. Those fishing for salmon in the Klamath and Trinity rivers must carry a 2026 North Coast Salmon Report Card and record all harvest and releases in real-time as required by regulation.
