Kitsap County will open a new household hazardous waste collection facility in Poulsbo on November 4, 2026, providing year-round disposal services for North Kitsap residents.

The facility, located at 23300 Arness Creek Road NE, will operate Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a lunch break from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. The county said the facility will accept batteries, cleaners, pesticides, flammable liquids, solvents, paints, and other household chemicals. Large propane tanks, explosives, empty containers, and appliances are not accepted.

The new facility addresses an access problem for North Kitsap residents, who currently either attend occasional one-day collection events or travel more than 40 minutes to the South Kitsap facility. "For years, North Kitsap residents relied on occasional one-day events or traveled more than 40 minutes to the South Kitsap Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility to safely dispose of paint, cleaners, and other chemicals," said Kevin Bevelhimer, Solid Waste Program Manager, the county said.

The facility cost $13 million and is the result of years of planning. Kitsap County conducted an initial feasibility study in 2007, with construction beginning in September 2025. The facility includes a reuse shop where residents can pick up free leftover household products, engineered secondary containment systems, and a backup generator for safety systems.

Small Quantity Generator businesses and organizations can also use the facility by appointment under a fee-based program.
