Texas is distributing $40 million to 411 school systems for teacher recruitment, preparation, and mentorship through the Preparing and Retaining Educators through Partnerships (PREP) Program.

The PREP Program was established under House Bill 2, passed by the Texas Legislature and signed into law in June 2025. The legislation provided a record $8.5 billion in new public education funding, with significant investments directed toward teachers and the educator pipeline.

The PREP allocation gives school districts resources to recruit candidates, provide preparation and mentorship programs, and support educators beginning their careers, according to Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath.
