A new $150 million Virginia program will help up to 200,000 residents reduce health insurance premiums, Gov. Abigail Spanberger announced this week.
Under the Virginia Premium Savings Program, monthly premiums will decrease by more than 90 percent for some eligible households, with more than 50,000 residents potentially qualifying for zero-dollar plans. Monthly savings will range from $65 to $360 depending on household income and size.
The program was created after President Trump and Republican leadership in Congress allowed federal tax credits to expire. Those credits had long made insurance coverage more affordable. The expiration caused nearly 100,000 Virginians to lose marketplace coverage in 2026 due to higher premiums.
Single residents earning $22,025 to $39,900 annually and families of four with incomes between $45,540 and $82,500 qualify for the subsidies. No additional forms are required to access the savings. Virginia's Insurance Marketplace open enrollment runs from November 1, 2026, through January 29, 2027.
