Riverside is developing an ordinance to restrict electric bike use in city parks, said Councilmember Chuck Conder of Ward 4.

The proposed ordinance addresses rising public safety concerns. According to Conder, the city has received dozens of reports of reckless riding in parks, including riders damaging ball fields and grass areas. Conder said the city has also recorded e-bike-related deaths this year.

Riverside County emergency rooms treated 958 patients for e-bike-related injuries in the past year, up from 494 the previous year, according to Conder. He said the ordinance is nearing completion.
