The Drug Enforcement Administration is holding a nationwide prescription drug take-back event on Saturday, October 24, 2026, with Indiana State Police Posts participating as collection sites. The event seeks to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft through proper disposal of expired, unused, and unwanted medications.
The collection sites will accept liquid and pill medications, as well as vaping cartridges and pens without batteries. Needles will not be accepted. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.
According to the agency, medicines stored in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Studies show a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 24, 2026. The Indiana State Police Posts in Lafayette and Putnamville will hold their collections on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
