Washington state's Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer announced updated claim handling rules that took effect October 18, establishing clearer standards for how insurance companies must handle claims. The updated rules clarify timeframes for responding to policyholders' questions, completing claim investigations, and determining the amount owed.
Kuderer said the changes are meant to provide clarity to consumers about their claims. "Most claims are processed without incident, but sometimes policyholders are left without a clear understanding of their claim's progress," she said. "The new rules will maintain a fair claim environment for consumers and provide transparency into the process that affects their financial recovery."
