The Department of the Interior announced that it will relinquish federal environmental program authority, including Clean Water Act Section 401 authority, over Wyoming's portion of Yellowstone National Park to the State of Wyoming.

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality will assume oversight following a 60-day notice period to Congress, according to Governor Mark Gordon's office.

Governor Gordon said the transfer formally acknowledges Wyoming's longstanding role in managing the park's water resources. "This official recognition restores the mutual responsibility that has worked so well," he said, noting that it will increase certainty and responsiveness for park visitors while ensuring the park's water resources remain protected according to Wyoming's standards.
