The Department of Homeland Security oversaw deportation flights carrying individuals back to Mexico from Phoenix, Arizona, the agency announced.
All individuals deported were from Mexico, DHS said. The department identified at least 10 people with criminal convictions in the United States who were ordered removed, describing them as having committed offenses ranging from sexual abuse of minors to drug trafficking.
DHS Secretary Mullin, who oversaw the flights, connected the deportations to the Trump administration's campaign promises regarding enforcement. "The American people voted for mass deportations, and that's exactly what we're giving them," Mullin said.
According to the agency, the individuals included Jaime Velasquez Orozco, convicted of lewd acts with a child under 14, assault with intent to rape, and first-degree burglary in California, who received a final removal order on October 6, 2026. Another individual, Jiovany Baray-Acosta, had convictions for aggravated driving under the influence with a passenger under 15 and narcotics possession for sale, and had previously been deported in 2016 before illegally re-entering the country in August 2021, the agency said.
