Michigan announced more than $770,460 in 2027 grants through its Coastal Management Program for 14 coastal projects, the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy said.

The grants will support efforts by coastal communities, nonprofits, and Tribal Nations to protect, preserve, restore, and enhance resources along Michigan's Great Lakes shoreline. Projects include Master Plan updates, zoning ordinance revisions, erosion mitigation planning, and public access improvements.

Specific grants awarded include $140,000 to the Village of Grand Beach for modeling and engineering to address chronic coastal erosion affecting Lake Michigan beaches, and $137,710 to East Bay Township for a multi-modal public coastal space along U.S. 31 North. Other recipients span coastal counties from Berrien to Chippewa, with grants ranging from $11,500 to $50,000 for various planning and resilience projects.
