Eversource filed an appeal with Connecticut Superior Court seeking to recover hundreds of millions of dollars in storm-related costs that state regulators denied.
The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) issued a final decision denying the utility's request to recover certain storm carrying costs and vendor expenses deemed imprudent, including more than $7 million in vendor costs.
Governor Ned Lamont said the appeal constitutes "an absurd money grab by Eversource," stating that "our ratepayers cannot afford to pay any more, nor should they have to."
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said PURA's decision was based on its review and the law.
