The USPS Office of Inspector General released an audit of the Postal Service's mail theft prevention efforts in Seattle, identifying security deficiencies at two facilities. The inspection found problems in tracking, safeguarding, managing, and reporting of arrow keys and modified arrow lock keys, leaving mail receptacles across seven Seattle ZIP codes vulnerable to theft, according to the OIG.
The audit is part of a broader OIG effort to examine mail theft mitigation in regions particularly affected by the problem, where the inspector general has launched specialized reviews.
The report issued six recommendations to USPS and Postal Inspection Service management to address the identified issues.
