California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed his 100th lawsuit against the Trump administration today, challenging the Immigration and Customs Enforcement policy of conducting civil immigration enforcement in and around state courthouses.

The filing comes 21 months after President Trump took office on January 20, 2025. Bonta's first lawsuit came less than 24 hours after the inauguration, challenging an executive order on birthright citizenship. That case reached the U.S. Supreme Court, where California won.

In the subsequent months, Bonta filed lawsuits challenging federal policies on education and research funding, National Guard deployments, tariffs, voting rights, and civil rights protections. The California Department of Justice said Bonta has led or co-led 67 of the 100 lawsuits and filed more than 130 amicus briefs in related cases.

According to the department, Bonta has secured 57 orders granting early relief and 26 final orders. In nine additional cases, the Trump administration backed down before the case was heard on the merits.

Bonta's office said major victories include U.S. Supreme Court rulings protecting voting rights and birthright citizenship, defending California's redistricting efforts, blocking National Guard federalization, and blocking the administration's tariffs.
