Who would have thought that the Milky Waycould be visible in this sky?

Thisimagewas taken with a filter that blocks mostvisible light, capturing instead only light in the near-infraredregion of theelectromagnetic spectrum.

The astrophotographer’sclever setupblocks most of thelight pollutionfrom the city: oldincandescent light bulbsand someneon lightsare stillbrightin the near-infrared, butfluorescentandLEDlight bulbs are not.

Of course, starsare also bright in the near-infrared

This image is a reminder that we all liveunder the same sky, and astronomy allows all of us to learn more abouthumanity’s place in the Cosmos.
