Service members operating in the U.S. Central Command area disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman on October 10 after it attempted to run a naval blockade against Iran, according to Centcom.
A U.S. military fighter jet struck the stern of the Panama-flagged M/V Ocean Molica with a precision munition, fully disabling the ship's propulsion without harming the crew. The vessel had departed an Iranian port and ignored repeated warnings from Centcom forces.
Centcom resumed enforcement of its blockade on all ships entering or leaving Iranian ports. During three months of enforcement, the command has disabled four commercial vessels and turned around 135 ships. U.S. forces have also destroyed 10 tankers linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' shadow network during the same period.
Mariners in the Gulf of Oman and Strait of Hormuz approaches have been advised to heed blockade warnings from Centcom forces and monitor Notice to Mariners broadcasts.
