The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has awarded just over $250,000 in grants for 39 electronics recycling projects across 35 counties. The funding will support two permanent collection sites and up to 55 one-day collection events between October 2026 and December 2027.
The grants support the E-Cycle Wisconsin program, a manufacturer-funded initiative managed by the DNR. The agency gave priority to projects in counties that do not have a permanent collection site registered under the program. According to the agency, the goal is to expand convenient, affordable electronics recycling opportunities for residents, especially in rural and underserved areas that have lacked the same access as other parts of the state.
Wisconsin's electronics recycling law, which took effect in 2010, banned many electronics from landfills and created the E-Cycle Wisconsin program. Since 2022, the DNR has awarded more than $830,000 to projects in 59 counties, which have supported nine permanent collection sites and 136 one-day events. As of 2025, residents and schools had recycled 440 million pounds of electronics through the program.
Devices accepted for recycling include computers, monitors, televisions, printers, cellphones and many accessories. The DNR maintains an online list of E-Cycle Wisconsin collection sites and mail-back programs.
