Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order allowing farm and logging vehicles to use dyed diesel on state highways in response to record-high diesel prices and supply chain disruptions.

The order temporarily suspends provisions of the Motor Fuel Tax Act that prohibited farm and logging vehicles from using dyed diesel on public roads. It takes effect immediately and remains in place through December 31, 2026.

Whitmer declared a state of energy emergency. According to the governor's office, Michigan's agricultural producers and loggers face severe financial strain from tightened global fuel supplies and market volatility. The order aims to reduce financial pressure during the critical harvest period.
