Wisconsin has planted its 50 millionth tree under the Trillion Trees Pledge, a statewide commitment announced by Gov. Evers in 2021 to plant 100 million trees by 2030, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The pledge is part of a global effort to address climate change through nature-based solutions to shifting precipitation and temperature patterns. It also includes goals to plant one million trees in urban areas and protect at least 125,000 acres of forestland.
As of the end of 2025, Wisconsin had planted over 54.7 million trees—nearly 55 percent of the tree-planting goal—according to the DNR. The progress reflects efforts by municipalities, schools, corporations, nonprofit organizations, agency partners, forest landowners, and residents.
The state's Reforestation Program began taking orders on Oct. 5 for the spring 2027 planting season.
