The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is streamlining its air quality permitting process. The Air Quality Division is now conducting its 30-day public comment period and 45-day Environmental Protection Agency review simultaneously for renewable operating permits (Title V ROPs), according to the agency.

The consolidated timeline applies to all renewable operating permits, including initial permits, renewals, significant modifications, and reopenings. The division may also request expedited EPA review, which could further reduce permitting timelines.

The updated process maintains transparency and public participation while providing more efficient and timely permit issuance, the agency said.
