BlinkHub has opened its government news feed, BlinkHub Wire, to AI assistants. A new server at wire.blinkhub.net/mcp speaks the Model Context Protocol, the open standard that lets an AI assistant call outside tools. In practice, a reporter can ask an assistant for "this week's UK government announcements on energy" and get back matching releases, the full text and the attribution line, without opening six government websites.
What is in the feed
The server draws on the same six markets as BlinkHub Wire's existing news API:
- United States: releases from federal agencies such as NASA, the White House and federal departments, plus some state and city offices. Sources whose website terms do not allow commercial redistribution are left out.
- South Korea: Korean-language releases from central ministries and local governments.
- United Kingdom: GOV.UK press releases, under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
- European Union: European Commission press releases, under CC BY 4.0.
- New Zealand: New Zealand Government releases, under CC BY 4.0.
- Australia: media releases from the Prime Minister of Australia, under CC BY 4.0.
Releases from the UK, the EU, New Zealand and Australia are rewritten as news copy, and every figure and quotation in the rewrite is checked against the original release before it is published. Each article carries the issuing agency, a link to the original where one exists, and the licence notice the source requires.
Four tools
| Tool | What it does | Counts toward quota |
|---|---|---|
search_articles | Keyword search over recent articles in one market | No |
get_article | Full text with source agency, original link and licence notice | Once per article |
list_markets | The six markets, their language, content and licence | No |
account_status | Plan, monthly quota and usage | No |
What it costs
Searching is free. Reading a full article counts once against the account's allowance, and fetching the same article again does not count a second time. The free tier covers 100 full articles a month; higher volumes are priced on request.
How to get access
Access uses the same key as BlinkHub Wire's news API. A publication registers at blinkhub.net/en/publishers/join, verifies its website and agrees to the terms; BlinkHub reviews the application, and once it is approved the key is issued in the portal. The same key also works with the REST API and the free WordPress plugin.
Setup steps for MCP-compatible assistants and developer tools are published in the project's GitHub repository and on the BlinkHub Wire documentation page. The server is also listed in the official MCP Registry under the name net.blinkhub/wire.
Why it matters
Government press releases are free to read, but they are scattered across hundreds of websites, each with its own format and publishing schedule. For a small newsroom or a research team, checking what six governments said about a single topic can mean six separate searches. Putting those releases behind one search that an assistant can call turns that into a single question, while keeping the source and licence attached to every answer.
