Traffic Advisory for October 9, 2026

Events happening in the City of Boston will bring some parking restrictions and street closures.

People attending these events are encouraged to walk, bike, or take public transit.

Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, may be found on thewebsite, and information on the MBTA may be foundonline.

The MBTA advises riders to purchase a round-trip rather than a one-way ticket for a faster return trip. Walking is also a great way to move around.

Events such as parades, road races, and street fairs may require road closures to accommodate the activities.

Open Newbury Street - Sunday, October 11, 2026

Newbury Street will become car-free to allow shoppers, diners and pedestrians to use the full width of the street.

Arlington Street, Berkeley Street, Clarendon Street, Dartmouth Street & Exeter Street will all remain open, while Fairfield Street, Gloucester Street, and Hereford Street will be closed at Newbury Street.

A 15 minute drop off and pick up area on Berkeley Street and Clarendon Street will be implemented. Additionally, a handicapped parking zone will be put in place on Berkeley Street.

The upcoming Open Newbury Street event will take place on October 11, 2026.

Parking restrictions and road closures will be in effect throughout the Sundays listed on the following streets:

Newbury Street -Both sides, from Berkeley Street to Massachusetts Avenue

Fairfield Street -Both sides, from Boylston Street to Newbury Street

Gloucester Street -Both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Newbury Street

Hereford Street -Both sides, from Boylston Street to Newbury Street, excluding the area next to the fire station

Berkeley Street -East side, from Boylston Street to Commonwealth Avenue, West side, from Public Alley 436 to Commonwealth Avenue

Clarendon Street -Both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Boylston Street

Berkeley Street -West side, from Boylston Street to Public Alley 436

Early Voting for General Election - Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2026

To support operations related to early voting on October 17-18, parking will be restricted on Hereford Street on both dates.

Parking will be restricted on Saturday and Sunday on the following street:

Hereford Street -East side, from Boylston Street to Public Alley 443

Boston 10K for Women - Saturday, October 10, 2026

The annual Boston 10K for Women will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 starting on Beacon Street between Charles Street and Brimmer Street.

Participants will proceed along Beacon Street, Massachusetts Avenue, and across the bridge into Cambridge, before returning along Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington Street, Boylston Street and finishing at the gate of the Public Garden.

Parking will be restricted on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10 on the following street:

Beacon Street -South side, from Charles Street to opposite Arlington Street

Parking will be restricted on Saturday, October 10 on the following streets:

Beacon Street -Both sides, from Charles Street to Clarendon Street, excluding the section of Beacon Street referenced above

Boylston Street -North side, from Arlington Street to Charles Street

Charles Street -Both sides, from Boylston Street to Beacon Street

Italian Heritage Parade, East Boston - Sunday, October 11, 2026

On Sunday, October 11, the Italian Heritage Parade will be taking place, bringing an October parade back to East Boston.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. in the area of Suffolk Downs and Waldemar Avenue, proceed along Bennington Street to Day Square, then along Chelsea Street to Maverick Square before ending at Central Square.

On Sunday, October 11, parking will be restricted on the following streets, and towing will begin at 5 a.m.

Bennington Street -Both sides, from Walley Street to Saratoga Street; North side from Saratoga Street to Neptune Road; Both sides, both roadways, from Neptune Road to Chelsea Street

Bayswater Street -Both sides, from Saratoga Street to Barnes Avenue

Chelsea Street -Both sides, from Day Square to Maverick Street

Maverick Street -Both sides, from Chelsea Street to Paris Street

Eutaw Street -Both sides, from Border Street to Meridian Street

Lexington Street -Both sides, from Border Street to Meridian Street

Meridian Street -Both sides, from Maverick Street to Porter Street

Central Square -Both sides, southerly roadway from Meridian Street to Border Street

Walley Street -Both sides, from Waldemar Avenue to Bennington Street

Parking will be restricted beginning on Saturday, October 10 at 7 p.m. through Monday, October 12 at 12 p.m. on the following street:

Meridian Street -West side, from Paris Street to #20 Meridian Street

Mission Hill Road Race - Sunday, October 18, 2026

The annual Mission Hill Road Race has been rescheduled and will take place on Sunday, October 18.

Runners and walkers will follow a route beginning and ending at St. Alphonsus Street at Puddingstone Park throughout the Mission Hill neighborhood.

Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following streets:

St. Alphonsus Street -Both sides, from Tremont Street to Calumet Street

Calumet Street -East side, from St. Alphonsus Street to Hillside Street

Open Streets Roslindale - Sunday, October 18, 2026

Open Streets Roslindale will take place on Sunday, October 18.

Open Streets Boston will offer residents, visitors and business owners the opportunity to experience Boston in a whole new way, through a fun-filled day of walking, biking, skating, rolling, and family-friendly activities on car-free streets, which will require some temporary parking regulations and some roadway diversions.

Parking will be restricted on Sunday along the following streets:

Corinth Street -Both sides, from Belgrade Avenue to Washington Street

Poplar Street -Both sides, from South Street to Washington Street

Canterbury Street Bridge Closure - Effective Friday, September 12, 2025, Until Further Notice

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced that the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closing to vehicular traffic on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 9:00 p.m. Findings from a recent bridge inspection required the closure of the bridge.

The bridge will be closed until further notice.

Pedestrian access will be maintained. Traffic should follow the detour signage in place.

The primary detour route will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street.

The eastbound detour will follow Seymour Street to Brown Avenue to Cummins Highway.

The westbound detour will follow Hyde Park Avenue to Cummins Highway to Rowe Street to Seymour Street.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

Age Strong Halloween Party at Melnea Cass Recreation Complex - Friday, October 30, 2026

On Friday, October 30, the Age Strong Commission will host a Halloween Party at the Melnea Cass Recreation Complex.

Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Martin Luther King Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday for bus drop-off and pick-up.

Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard -North side, all of the 2-Hour Parking spaces from Walnut Avenue to Washington Street
