The Bureau of Justice Statistics, the principal federal agency for crime data, released reports today on the completion of a redesigned National Crime Victimization Survey.
The bureau fully transitioned to the redesigned survey (NCVS-R) in January 2025, following a year of concurrent testing with the legacy instrument. In 2024, both the new and old versions were administered simultaneously to compare results.
The reports released today provide the first victimization estimates from the redesigned instrument and examine how the estimates differ from the legacy survey. They also describe changes between the instruments and updates to data processing procedures.
