The Trump Administration announced $37.7 million in funding for the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) to strengthen the healthcare workforce in rural Louisiana. The investment will expand training opportunities and help rural providers recruit and retain healthcare professionals.

The funding breaks down into three main components. Up to $20 million will connect Louisiana's public universities and community and technical colleges with rural healthcare providers to align education and training with local workforce needs. Another $12.7 million will help 53 rural providers recruit and retain physicians, nurses, dentists, EMS personnel, behavioral health professionals, and other clinicians through recruitment and retention bonuses, relocation assistance, and professional training. The remaining $5 million will create healthcare career pathways across 39 campuses, helping high school students begin healthcare coursework and allowing current healthcare workers to advance their credentials while staying on the job.

The funding was authorized through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, legislation that directed a $50 billion investment to help states transform healthcare delivery in America.
