The City of Saratoga will continue contracting with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office for law enforcement services following a city council vote on October 7, 2026.

The decision concluded a year-long evaluation of alternatives. Facing significant cost increases, the city explored whether the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department could provide comparable public safety services at greater financial stability. Saratoga has contracted with the Sheriff's Office since its incorporation nearly 70 years ago.

The evaluation included extensive community outreach with public meetings, town halls, and an online survey to determine residents' priorities for law enforcement services. According to the city, residents identified public safety and responsive emergency services as top priorities.

The city will continue operations under its existing five-year contract with the Sheriff's Office, which will provide patrol, emergency response, and other law enforcement services.
