U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer for Jerson Diaz-Diaz, a 22-year-old from Honduras, after his arrest on September 23 in Tennessee on charges of statutory rape and sexual exploitation of a minor. The detainer was filed with the Davidson County Sheriff's Department the same day he was arrested.

According to local reporting cited by the Department of Homeland Security, Diaz-Diaz admitted to police that he lied about his age to a 15-year-old girl, claiming to be 16 so he could sexually assault her. Police also found a sexually exploitative video of the girl on his phone after he initially denied having such images.

Diaz-Diaz illegally entered the country through Texas in March 2021 and was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol.
