Oregon has closed razor clam harvesting coastwide effective Oct. 2 after detecting domoic acid, a marine biotoxin, at unsafe levels in recent samples, the state Department of Agriculture and Department of Fish and Wildlife said. The closure affects the popular Clatsop Beach harvesting area.
Mussel harvesting has reopened coastwide after domoic acid levels dropped below the alert threshold. Bay clams and crabs remain open for harvest.
The agencies will test for shellfish toxins at least twice monthly, weather permitting. An area can reopen only after two consecutive tests show biotoxin levels below the closure limit.
