A Culver City bus operator was shot and killed while driving their route, the city said. In response, the city is suspending Culver CityBus service throughout the weekend.

The operator's identity is not being released out of respect for the family. The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, according to the city.

Mayor Freddy Puza said: "We have lost a deeply valued member of our City family to a senseless act of violence. We are grieving the loss of someone who dedicated their time and talents to serving Culver City and who made a meaningful difference through that service every day."

The city said it is providing crisis support services to staff and asked the public to be kind to transit workers when service resumes.
