The Genoveva Chavez Community Center (GCCC) Natatorium will reopen Friday, October 2, after its dehumidification unit was repaired, according to the City of Santa Fe. The system is essential to maintaining air quality in the indoor pool facility.

Updated hours begin October 2 for all city pools, including the GCCC Lap Pool (6 a.m.–7:30 p.m. weekdays, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. weekends), GCCC Therapy Pool, and GCCC Leisure Pool. Bicentennial Pool will close for the season at the end of Thursday, October 1.

The city said the dehumidification units will continue to undergo repairs to ensure long-term reliability. According to the city, maintenance work that has been postponed for years is now being addressed through funding included in the FY27 City Budget. The city also recently added a second Aquatic Technician position to support equipment monitoring and preventive maintenance.

The city faces ongoing staffing challenges, with 15 lifeguard vacancies. According to the announcement, additional lifeguards are needed to expand hours at Fort Marcy Swimming Pool and the GCCC Natatorium. The city is also conducting a feasibility study to evaluate options for Salvador Perez Pool, with findings to be presented to city leadership.
