Governor Greg Abbott met with the Texas Jobs Council at the Governor's Mansion to receive an update on the council's efforts to expand workforce development and connect Texans with high-paying, in-demand jobs. He also signed a proclamation declaring October 2-9 Manufacturing Week in Texas.

The Jobs Council, created by Abbott in March, has been developing legislative recommendations and actionable items for strengthening the state's workforce. In June, Abbott directed four state agencies to implement the council's first set of recommendations.

At the meeting, the council briefed the governor on feedback it has gathered from Texans across the state. The group highlighted demand for skilled labor in fields including electrical work, pipe fitting, welding, plumbing, and trucking.

The council's early recommendations focus on creating clearer pathways into high-demand jobs, giving Texas students earlier exposure to career training, and strengthening workforce readiness. A final report is expected ahead of the 90th Texas legislative session.

Abbott emphasized Texas's standing in the national economy. "Texas ranks number one in the United States for the most new jobs and number one for the most economic opportunity," he said. "We have to maintain that status by ensuring Texas can provide the skilled employees that our employers need."
