Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has appointed Nancy Vehr as interim director of the Department of Environmental Quality, replacing retiring Director Todd Parfitt. Vehr, who has served as deputy director, assumed the position effective October 2, 2026.
Vehr has more than 15 years of experience as a nurse and holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law. She worked over a decade at the Wyoming Attorney General's Office and in private practice before joining the DEQ.
At the DEQ, Vehr served as administrator of the Air Quality Division for nearly ten years and has held leadership positions including president of the Association of Air Pollution Control Agencies (AAPCA) and president of the Western State Air Resource Council (WESTAR).
"She knows the agency, understands the regulations, and has fiercely defended the state's prerogative when the federal government overreaches its authority," Governor Gordon said of the appointment.
