Las Vegas will open an expanded Recuperative Care Center to provide shelter and medical services for homeless individuals recovering from serious illness or injury.
Mayor Shelley Berkley and Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong are scheduled to cut the ribbon for the facility on October 6 at 9:30 a.m. The new center will contain 74 beds, more than double the 38-bed capacity of the original facility that opened in 2020.
The facility will begin accepting patients in early November. A second floor will include behavioral health transition services and additional beds, according to the city.
The Recuperative Care Center provides medical care, intensive case management, and assistance connecting patients with benefits including Social Security and disability payments. The program is designed to address health disparities affecting people experiencing homelessness, for whom recovery from medical conditions is difficult on the streets.
The $20 million facility was built with an $11 million grant from the State of Nevada.
