Man arrested in fatal Indianapolis hit-and-run crash

Police arrested a suspect in a September 26 collision that killed a 33-year-old woman.

Indianapolis police arrested a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash on September 26 that killed 33-year-old Tamara Renee Thomas.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, a vehicle traveling at high speed struck another vehicle, causing it to drive through a gas station parking lot and hit Thomas. The driver fled the scene.

Edwin Alexander Sosa-Gonzalez, described by federal authorities as an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated causing death, leaving the scene of a vehicle accident that caused death or catastrophic injury, and leaving the scene of a vehicle accident resulting in death.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer for Sosa-Gonzalez on September 27. According to federal records, he has a prior arrest from February 2024 by Indianapolis police for operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license following an accident that damaged three parked vehicles.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection records indicate Sosa-Gonzalez illegally entered the United States through Texas in July 2021 and was arrested by Border Patrol. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on June 5, 2026.
