A former Boulder County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested after making threats toward county law enforcement facilities and then appearing at sheriff's headquarters with a rifle, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Tyler Boyd Reilly, a former deputy who resigned in May 2024, called the sheriff's communications center around 12:02 a.m. on Monday, September 28, reporting anxiety. When he called back minutes later, he made threats toward the Boulder County Jail and Sheriff's Office Headquarters at 5600 Flatiron Parkway in Boulder, according to the agency.
Deputies were positioned at multiple sheriff's office facilities after Reilly was identified as the caller. Around 1:08 a.m., a sergeant observed Reilly at the front entrance of headquarters armed with an AR-15 style rifle. Reilly fired multiple rounds at the building's entry area before deputies took him into custody without incident, the Sheriff's Office said. No entry to the building was gained.
The Sheriff's Office later determined that Reilly was also suspected of firing rounds at police vehicles at the Broomfield Police Department, located at 7 Descombes Drive in Broomfield.
No injuries were reported in Boulder or Broomfield counties, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to the agency. The investigation is ongoing.
