Governor Gavin Newsom signed a comprehensive package of gun safety bills into law, according to the California governor's office. The bills address protective-order enforcement, firearm storage, research, reporting, training, youth services and emerging firearm technologies.

The legislation includes a bill preventing the manufacturing of three-dimensional printed firearms, which can be produced without a serial number or paper trail. It also creates a dedicated Office of Community Violence Intervention to coordinate violence prevention work across California.

Other bills in the package improve reporting procedures for individuals involuntarily admitted to mental health facilities due to posing a threat to themselves or others, and provide options for temporarily storing firearms outside the home during moments of crisis. Legislation addressing possession of loaded firearms by young people provides judges with additional guidance in determining rehabilitation eligibility.

The package also targets individuals with prior serious firearm convictions and includes requirements for prospective gun owners to receive education and training on gun laws and gun safety.
