Governor Evers issued Executive Order #290 to lower state and federal flags to half-staff on September 26 and October 10, 2026, honoring firefighters who have died in the line of duty, the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs said.

The flag-lowering will coincide with the Final Alarm Ceremony and Silent Procession at the Wisconsin Fire & EMS Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids on September 26, and with Wisconsin Firefighter Memorial Day during Fire Prevention Week on October 10. In May, Evers also signed the order to lower flags on May 3, 2026, during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend was moved from October to May beginning in 2023.

"We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Wisconsin's firefighters and EMS professionals for all that they do and sacrifice to answer the call and help folks in their darkest hours," said Evers in a statement. "These brave individuals run towards danger, risking themselves for the health and safety of others."

The flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset on both dates.
