State Senator Barry Tallman Parker Dies at 93

State Senator Barry Tallman Parker died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the age of 93. Governor Mikie Sherrill ordered U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff in his honor.

A U.S. Army Ranger, Parker served in the New Jersey Legislature as Speaker of the General Assembly and Senate Minority Leader. He also served as counsel to state firefighters.

"Barry Parker dedicated his life to serving New Jersey with distinction in uniform, in the General Assembly, in the State Senate, and as counsel to the firefighters who protect our communities," Governor Sherrill said. "His leadership in both houses of the Legislature helped shape our state for a generation."
