Federal agents arrested Sanata Coulibaly on September 17 on charges of illegally voting in U.S. elections. Coulibaly, a lawful permanent resident from Senegal, voted in the 2020 and 2024 general elections, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Evidence indicates she also voted in 2018.

Coulibaly first entered the United States in September 1993 and was granted permanent resident status in November 2009.

The arrest comes after the Department of Homeland Security warned several states about non-citizens on their voter rolls. In June, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin notified New Jersey's secretary of state that the agency's preliminary review found as many as 35,152 non-citizens registered to vote in the state. New Jersey's governor subsequently acknowledged that approximately 6,600 non-citizens had been registered.

The department also said at least 75,000 non-citizens are called for jury duty in New Jersey annually.
