Oregon's statewide test scores increased across all three major subject areas for the second consecutive year, the Oregon Department of Education said. Math proficiency rose by 1.4 percentage points, English language arts increased by 0.8 percentage points, and science grew by 0.6 percentage points.

All grade levels tested showed improvement in math and science, while all but eighth grade improved in English language arts. Oregon's three largest school districts—Portland, Beaverton, and Salem-Keizer—increased both English and math scores compared to the previous year.

Proficiency levels also increased across student demographic groups. Black/African American students saw gains of 1.5 percentage points in English and 1.8 percentage points in math. Hispanic/Latino students improved by 1.1 percentage points in English and 1.4 percentage points in math.

The department said it is focusing on strong implementation of high-quality instructional materials and targeted support for educators and students. It adjusted its curriculum adoption calendar to allow more planning time and is leading professional learning initiatives through regional partnerships.

Students in grades 3-8 and 11 take the statewide English and math assessments. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 also take science tests. The results include data from students enrolled on May 1, 2026.
