Oregon's Department of Transportation installed the state's first Express Kiosk inside a DMV office at 162 NE Beacon Drive in Grants Pass, allowing drivers to renew vehicle registration without waiting in line.
The kiosk can renew or replace vehicle registration, print registration copies, and issue license plate stickers. Most transactions take five minutes or less and do not require an appointment. Customers can use the kiosk in English or Spanish.
Until now, Oregon's Express Kiosks have been available only in Fred Meyer stores across 10 cities. "Having an Express Kiosk inside the Grants Pass office gives our community another convenient way to do business with DMV," said DMV South Region Manager Jonah Kopp.
The kiosk accepts credit, debit or contactless payment such as Apple, Google or Samsung Pay. A vendor transaction fee of $4.95 is charged per transaction, which the Oregon DMV does not collect or benefit from. The Grants Pass DMV kiosk is available during office hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The Grants Pass office was selected as the pilot location after the department analyzed which location could have the greatest impact for residents, considering customer needs and wait times. The move comes as Oregon DMV explores relocating the in-store kiosk at the Oak Grove Fred Meyer location, which has seen the lowest usage among the 10 kiosk sites.
Customers who prefer other services or different times can still book appointments online or wait for same-day appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. The Oregon DMV website offers more than 30 common transactions online at any time.
