Michigan is making approximately $1 million available in grant funding for projects that protect and restore coastal communities and natural resources, the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy announced.
The Michigan Coastal Management Program (MCMP) 2028 Grant Funding Opportunity seeks projects that protect community character, revitalize ports and harbors, plan for growth while minimizing coastal hazards, protect and restore coastal ecosystems, develop nature-based stormwater solutions, and create public access.
The program prioritizes projects that promote resilience planning and local policies, mitigate negative impacts from coastal hazards, conduct community engagement, install nature-based restoration solutions, and develop coastal ecosystem conservation plans, according to the department.
The grant funds are made possible through a partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972.
A webinar covering application requirements will be held October 1, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Applications are due by December 18, 2026. Communities and consultants interested in developing proposals are encouraged to contact MCMP staff early in the process.
