Wilson Pipe & Fabrication, a Norfolk-based structural and piping system fabricator, will invest $3.5 million to expand its operations, quadrupling its facility space and creating 15 new advanced manufacturing positions, Governor Abigail Spanberger announced.
Founded in 2016 by Hampton Roads native Brandon Wilson, the company specializes in pipefitting, welding, and fabrication services for ship repair, shipbuilding, and energy infrastructure. The expansion reflects rising demand from government and commercial clients, according to the company.
Eight of the 15 new positions will be trainee and apprenticeship roles with on-the-job training provided after hiring. Founder Brandon Wilson, a Newport News Shipyard apprentice graduate, has committed to expanding the skilled trades training program that launched his career.
"Investing in a larger footprint will allow us to increase our advanced manufacturing capabilities as well as enhance our ability to support both the defense and private marine sectors," Wilson said. "A larger footprint means a larger workforce will be required. We are committed to accomplishing this by creating high level jobs as well as bringing in and training entry level employees."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership supported the expansion through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which provides funding and services to companies creating new jobs to support employee recruitment and training.
