The University of Massachusetts Boston and the Boston Public Health Commission announced a partnership Sept. 21 to provide undergraduates with internship experience and real-world teaching opportunities.

The program sends senior students from UMass Boston's Urban Public Health program into internships with the city health agency this fall. In the spring, students will deliver evidence-based health education to high school students at three schools: Roxbury Prep, Boston Prep, and Academy of the Pacific Rim.

"Our students know that public health begins close to home," said Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Boston.

UMass Boston launched its Urban Public Health program in 2022. The program currently serves 65 students and will expand to more than 100 when new first-year students arrive this fall. The program focuses on environmental health, epidemiology, data science, biostatistics, and health communications with an emphasis on diverse urban populations.
