The Department of Interior Office of Inspector General completed an external peer review of the U.S. Department of State Office of Inspector General and rated its quality control systems as passing.

The review, conducted in accordance with federal guidelines established by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, examined State OIG's compliance with quality standards for inspection and evaluation work for the year ended March 31, 2026.

The Department of Interior's Office of Inspector General selected six reports for review from across State OIG's inspection, audit, and special projects divisions to assess a cross-section of work areas. The agency found that the system of quality control in effect during the period "has been suitably designed and complied with to provide the State OIG with reasonable assurance of performing and reporting in conformity with" federal standards.

Inspection and evaluation organizations in federal government can receive ratings of pass, pass with deficiencies, or fail. State OIG received a rating of pass.
